It is difficult to match the Royal City Musical Theatre Company for their highly professional presentation evening after evening of unsurpassed music, dancing and singing. In 2003, it was "The Sound of Music;" in 2004, it was "Carousel;" and now in 2005, the RCMT treats theatre-goers to the exciting and colourful production of Meredith Willson's "The Music Man!" This runs through the month of April. Peter Jorgensen excels as the vibrant, slick-talking lead, Harold Hill; and Elizabeth Marie West's lovely voice adds a vast amount of luster in her role as Marian the librarian. Norm Grohmann, the long-time weatherman for the BCTV News, does an amusing turn as the Mayor of River City. Songs that are especially noteworthy are "Goodnight, My Someone;" "Seventy-six Trombones;" "The Sadder-But-Wiser Girl;" "My White Knight;" "Lida Rose;" and the dance number "Shipoopi." Valarie Easton choreographed some amazing dance numbers, and is well deserving of praise, as are Ed Harrington, Artistic Director; James Bryson, Musical Director; Jean Claude Olivier, Set Designer; and Chris Sinosich, Costumer, who virtually lit the stage up with a vibrant pageant of piquant apparel.
